Old Gerzensee Castle
The old castle Gerzensee is a castle built around 1520 in the late Gothic style in the municipality of Gerzensee in the canton of Bern .
history
In place of the Gerzensee Castle , which burned down in 1518 , the Bernese mayor Jakob von Wattenwyl had a castle built at the foot of the castle hill, which was acquired by Colonel Balthasar Ambuel in 1652 . In 1757, the then Twingherr von Gerzensee, Franz Emanuel Anton von Graffenried, sold the castle after he had relocated his mansion to the New Castle . Around 1770 it came into the possession of the Bernese Wyss family for around 150 years .
One of the numerous residents was the uncle of the Bernese poet Rudolf von Tavel . The best-known owner in the 20th century was the Bernese art dealer Jürg Stuker (1914–1988).
