The Hünegg Castle is a castle from the 19th century in the town of Hilterfingen on Lake Thun in the canton of Bern , Switzerland . A park with old trees belongs to the castle.

Location and history

The castle is a manorial country house with a rare, original interior. The lively atmosphere of the household gives the impression that the owners are only briefly away.

The castle was designed by the German architect Heino Schmieden and built for Baron Albert von Parpart from 1861 to 1863 in the style of historicism with the shapes of the Renaissance castles on the Loire. The house was slightly expanded in 1900 by Gustav Lemke-Schuckert and mostly refurbished in Art Nouveau style. The interior is characterized by carefully selected, precious materials and a wide range of furnishings.

The castle is home to the Museum for Living Culture of Historicism and Art Nouveau and, since the move from Schadau Castle in Thun at the end of 2017 , and from summer 2018 also the Swiss Gastronomy Museum .

Exhibitions

The castle and the castle park are available for changing exhibitions. For example, the special exhibition on mountain railways took place there from May to October in 2012, 2013 and 2014 .
