The Nidau Castle is located in Nidau in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

The first castle in Nidau ​​was founded around 1140 by the Counts of Neuchâtel . It was originally made of wood and is historically proven for the first time by a document dated August 30, 1196, which was issued by Count Ulrich III. was issued by Neuchâtel. From the 13th century stone built Wasserburg (the water level of Lake Biel was in the Middle Ages by 2 meters higher) nor are parts of the keep , the Kefiturmes (prison tower) and the circular wall preserved.

The current building dates largely from the years 1627 to 1636 and houses offices of the cantonal administration (including the governor's office of the district of Nidau ) and a castle museum, which shows an exhibition on the correction of the Jura waters .
