The münchenwiler castle is a castle in the town of Münchenwiler in the canton of Bern .

It stands on the site of a Cluniac monastery built in the 12th century , which was badly damaged in the wars with the Savoy in 1448 , but then restored and in 1484 came into the possession of the monastery named after Saint Vincent at the Bern Minster . After the introduction of the Reformation in 1528, the monastery was closed and in 1535 sold to the Bernese mayor Hans Jakob von Wattenwyl. The von Wattenwyl family had the monastery demolished and built a castle from its stones, which was attached to a tower at each of the four corners. In 1668 it passed to the von Graffenried family and remained in their possession until 1932. Dionys von Graffenried (1815–1886) had the south wing rebuilt in the classical style and built after he converted from the Reformed to the Roman Catholic Church for the sake of his wife , a castle chapel with an apse .

From 1956, the castle was leased from the Bern Adult Education Center and operated as a training center . The canton had it renovated from 1986 to 1990, and in 2001 it became the Parkhotel Schloss Münchenwiler.
