The Rüeggisberg Monastery is a former Cluniac priory in the municipality of Rüeggisberg , Canton of Bern , Switzerland .

According to a foundation by Lütold von Rümligen (1015-1048), the monks Cono and St. Ulrich von Zell built the first cells around 1072 . Before 1075, Rudolf von Rheinfelden , Duke of Swabia, approved the establishment of the monastery. Soon after 1100 the construction of the Romanesque church, which was completed around 1175, began , of which the northern transept and parts of the crossing are still preserved.

The priory was one of the most important monastery buildings in Switzerland in the Middle Ages and was an important stop on the Way of St. James . In the late Middle Ages , however, it fell into disrepair and in 1484 was incorporated into the newly established canon monastery of the Bern Minster . The monastery church was finally closed in 1541 after the introduction of the Reformation . The monastery then served as a quarry and partly as a barn.

From 1938 to 1947 the old foundations were exposed again during an archaeological excavation. A small museum next to the rectory provides information about this today .
