Moutier Castle

The Moutier Castle is a castle in the town Moutier in the canton of Bern .

history

The castle was built around 1590 and served the bailiffs as the seat of government. It was surrounded by a wall and four towers. In 1630 the castle partially burned down. In 1737 it burned down again, this time to the ground. In 1740 it was rebuilt in its current form. In 1817 the city of Bern bought the castle and used it as the seat of his governor of Moutier.

Today the castle houses the Moutier court and prison.
