Gustav Amweg

Gustav Amweg (born June 16, 1874 in Vendlincourt ; † February 27, 1944 in Pruntrut , entitled to live in Vendlincourt) was a Swiss author and teacher .

biography

Amweg attended the teachers' college in Pruntrut and obtained the primary school teacher license in 1893 . He then worked as a teacher in Mormont , Vendlincourt and from 1900 in Pruntrut. After studying at the University of Bern , he was awarded the secondary teacher license in 1906 . From 1907 to 1939 he was a teacher at the Progymnasium of the Pruntrut Cantonal School , where he taught French and history . From 1923 he was also a librarian .

He was involved in the Société jurassienne d'Emulation , where he was central secretary from 1909 to 1924, then treasurer and finally president from 1927 to 1933.

Gustav Amweg's work, which includes several publications and is characterized by an encyclopedic character, is still of great value today. From his collection of engravings and his library, the Musée de l'Hôtel-Dieu in Pruntrut was created in 1949.

In 1936 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern and an honorary membership of the Historical and Antiquarian Society in Basel .
