The hindelbank castle is a castle from the 18th century in the municipality Hindelbank in the canton of Bern , known today as the administrative building of the institutions Hindelbank , a women's correctional facility serves. The castle is halfway between Hindelbank and Bäriswil in the Wiler district, in a valley between Schnarz and Haselberg.

history

The castle was built in 1720 for Hieronymus von Erlach by Daniel Stürler according to plans by Joseph Abeille . The model was Thunstetten Castle , which was also built for Hieronymus von Erlach from 1714 to 1715 . Hindelbank Castle was the seat of the von Erlach family until 1866 and then became the property of the canton. In the following years it was used as a poor institution for women.

From 1892 to 1912 it was a compulsory institution for women and from 1912 a labor and penal institution for women, to which people were also admitted for " administrative care ". In 1959, the Konkordantsanstalt was built with first-time and recidivism departments and was given its current name: Anstalten Hindelbank . From 1995 to 1997 the entire prison was partially renovated for 16 million Swiss francs . This includes an in-house nursery. Annette Keller has been running the Hindelbank establishments since May 1, 2011 .
