The Castle Kehrsatz is a castle in the town of Kehrsatz in the canton of Bern .

history

Kehrsatz Castle, engraving by Johann Ludwig Nöthiger (around 1743).

Hans von Fridingen and his wife Anna, daughter of the mayor Rudolf von Ringoltingen , sold in 1458 the sack master Gillian Spilmann († 1458) ground rent from goods in Kehrsatz and half of the rule at Kehrsatz. The rule was inherited from the Spilmann family to the Michel and the Bonstetten . Andreas von Bonstetten, Herr zu Urtenen and Mattstetten, bequeathed Kehrsatz to his son Wolfgang von Bonstetten. He in turn sold the rule to Konrad Güder, who was married to Susanna Frisching, a daughter of the mayor Samuel Frisching . By inheritance, the Kehrsatz rule now passed to the Wurstembergers . Victor Emanuel Wurstemberger sold Kehrsatz in 1720 to his cousin, Lieutenant General Karl Hackbrett , who rebuilt the house. His widow Elisabeth Bondeli bequeathed the castle and the estate to their two youngest (of four) daughters. Maria Magdalena chopping board husband Franz Ludwig von Graffenried bought the inheritance from his sister-in-law and thereby became sole owner of Kehrsatz. His sons now sold their property to Bernhard von Graffenried in 1774. This in turn sold in 1797 to Beat Emanuel Tscharner, who, through his marriage to Charlotte Tscharner, also owned the neighboring country estate Lohn . His childless son Albrecht Friedrich von Tscharner bequeathed the castle property to the Inselspital in 1860 . The canton of Bern acquired it in 1888 and built a girls' home in it.

The home later became a mixed school home with small residential groups and an internal school, in which children and young people with special integration needs are supported. In 1950 the farm was leased, the old barn was demolished and today's house was built in its place.

Legend

According to a legend, a daughter of the dulcimer family, who was never able to find eternal peace due to her relaxed way of life, haunts the castle at night and looks for the year 1598 in the masonry. After that she always goes to the attic, where she waits next to the tower clock until midnight strikes.
