The Kiesen Castle

The Castle gravels is a castle from the 18th century in the town of gravels in the Swiss canton of Bern .

history

Kiesen Castle was built at the end of the 18th century by the Effinger family on the site of a medieval castle . Rudolf Emanuel Effinger sold Kiesen in 1830 to Thomas Southwell Pigott (1793–1837), married to Cécile Josephine von Steiger (1798–1851). In 1915 the palace was acquired by the National Councilor and Colonel Roger Dollfus von Volckersberg . His wife Annie Elisabeth Dollfus von Volckersberg lived in Kiesen Castle until her death in 1983. After that, the castle stood empty for over 20 years. In the meantime, the Thun media artist Chantal Michel made a guest appearance in the castle for two years from 2009.

The current owners, the Läderach family, carried out various renovations to preserve the building.
