Beat Fischer

Beat Fischer (born May 23, 1641 in Bern ; † March 23, 1698 ibid) was the founder of the post office in the old city and republic of Bern .
In 1673 he became a member of the Grand Council and in 1675 was leased the post office shelf that he had created at his suggestion for 25 years . He built the Bernese Post Office into one of the fastest postal services in Europe and was elevated to the status of hereditary imperial knighthood by Emperor Leopold I in 1680 .
He was editor of the first Bern weekly newspaper , the Gazette de Berne founded in 1677 , and from 1680 to 1686 Governor von Wangen an der Aare . In 1683 he acquired the Reichenbach rule in what is now the municipality of Zollikofen and initiated the construction of the new castle there .
