The Römerstraße is a street in the Upper Austrian capital Linz . It runs from the promenade in the city ​​center to the Freinberg at Jägermayrhof and continues there as Freinbergstrasse.

history

The street was named Römerstraße in 1869. Before that it consisted of several parts, namely Am Schloßwall, Neuer Weg, Oberer Neuweg, Äußerer Neuweg and Äußerer Schulerberg.

Location and characteristics

The approximately 1500 meter long street runs in a westerly direction from the promenade to Freinbergstrasse at Jägermayrhof. In the area between Martingasse and Schweizerhausgasse and between Donatusgasse and Lessingstraße, Römerstraße is a one-way street out of town. The street is used from Lessingstraße (near Königsweg) to the upper end of bus line 26, with four bus stops along Römerstraße ( theater [also line 27, this only in the direction of the chemical park ], Römerbergschule, Vergeinerstraße and Jägermayr).

The lower section between Schlossberg and Tiefer Graben is a narrow street with a historically preserved village character and a low ensemble of houses near the Martinskirche . Above the street is wider, from Lessingstraße it is lined with old trees and characterized by Wilhelminian style villas.
