The Roman Museum with Archaeological Park Koengen is an archaeological museum with an attached open-air facility in Koengen in the district of Esslingen , Baden-Wuerttemberg. The focus of the museum is on the Roman history of the city and the Köngen Castle .

The museum goes back to numerous archaeological finds . The first documented find, a gold coin of Emperor Antoninus Pius , took place in 1782. Again and again, farmers came across remnants of ancient walls while plowing. From 1783 onwards, the chief magistrate Eugen Rosser had planned excavations carried out in the surrounding fields by order of Duke Karl. After further excavations, the reconstructed Roman tower, which was financed by the Swabian Alb Association , was inaugurated on December 10, 1911 .

In the 1960s, after large parts of the former settlement had already been built over, plans for a new building area threatened the former fort grounds, which were discontinued after a long legal dispute. In the 1980s, large parts of the fort grounds were acquired by the community. In June 1988, the Römerpark Museum, planned and implemented by the municipality of Köngen, the Swabian Alb Association and the State Monuments Office, was inaugurated.

Numerous finds from the excavations are exhibited in the futuristic museum pavilion. The highlights of the exhibition include an epona relief , a coin treasure with 555 silver coins and parts of a giant column of Jupiter . In the outer area, the Roman Park, there are remains of the foundations of the former fort. The museum also has a stone watchtower reconstructed in 1911. The Köngener Roman Days take place every two years with the participation of international Roman groups.

The museum offers visitors and especially children and school classes a wide range of educational opportunities.
