Martin Luik

Martin Luik (* 1961 in Esslingen am Neckar ) is a German prehistorian and archaeologist . Luik has been a private lecturer and substitute professor at the Institute for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archeology and Provincial Roman Archeology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich since 2004 .

Life

Luik attended the Georgii-Gymnasium in Esslingen and studied from 1980 Provincial Roman Archeology, Prehistory and Early History, Ancient History and Classical Archeology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1987 he passed the master's examination in Roman provincial archeology at Munich University.

In 1987 Luik became a research assistant for the construction of the Roman Museum and Archaeological Park in Köngen . A year later he wrote a guide to the Roman Park together with Fridolin Reutti. 1991 doctorate he at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Provincial Roman Archeology Dr. phil. His dissertation and a short version of his master's thesis were published in 1996 as the first volume of the Koengen-Grinario. Excavations of Landesdenkmalamt Baden-Wuerttemberg in Konrad Theiss Verlag published. Until 1993 he was a research assistant at the Limes Museum Aalen .

From 1993 to 1997 Luik received a research scholarship of the German Archaeological Institute . In 2001 he completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Klagenfurt . The habilitation thesis was published in 2002 with the title The finds from the Roman camps around Numantia in the Roman-Germanic Central Museum as volume 31 of the series catalogs of prehistoric antiquities . At the University of Klagenfurt he held a university assistant position at the Institute for History, Department of Ancient History and Classical Studies, and various teaching positions at the Universities of Klagenfurt, Trier and Munich.

In 2004 Luik followed the call to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich after a post- doctoral qualification . Since 2004 he has worked there as a private lecturer , deputy professor and research assistant at the Institute for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archeology and Provincial Roman Archeology. His main research interests include the cultural history of the Roman Republic and the Middle Roman Empire, as well as archaeological sources on Roman economic history. He is the author , editor , editor and reviewer of numerous specialist publications. Some of his works appeared in the Archäologische Korrespondenzblatt and in the magazine Antike Welt .

In 2012 he received the Daniel Pfisterer Prize from the Köngen History and Culture Association for his services . Martin Luik has been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute since 2018 .
