Rössing Uranium (often incorrectly referred to as Rossing ) is a mining company in Namibia . It mainly operates the Rössing mine 60 km outside Swakopmund , the largest uranium open pit mine in the world.

For years, the shareholders of the Rio Tinto Group (69%) were also the Namibian state (3%) as well as the Iranian foreign investment company (15%) and the industrial development company (IDC) from South Africa (10%). Since July 2019, the majority stake in Rio Tinto (68.62%) has been owned by the Chinese China National Uranium Corporation Limited .

With more than 1150 employees and a turnover of almost N $ 2.4 billion (2013: 2.9 billion; 2011: 2.326 billion; 2010: 4.2 billion), Rössing is one of the largest companies in the country. From 2009 to 2010 and 2011 to 2012, sales fell by around one billion Namibian dollars each due to the global economic crisis . In 2008, Rössung mined uranium 4108 tU and thus took third place worldwide. In 2009 the production increased slightly to 4150 tU. In 2010 and 2011 production fell significantly and in 2012 it was increased to 2,699 tU.
