Rørtang Sneglehøj
The Rørtang Sneglehøj (also called Snekkersten) is a so-called snail hill ( Danish sneglehøj ) on the edge of Helsingør on the Danish island of Zealand . The hill with a diameter of 16.0 m has a height of about 3.0 m.
Explanation
What is special about Sneglehøjen is a processional path running in a spiral around the round hill to the top, the traces of which can be clearly seen on Rørtang Sneglehøj, which was placed under protection in 1968. Finds on such hills date mostly from the Bronze Age and in Denmark are limited to Zealand and the neighboring regions. For some, the path is hardly associated with an ancient use of the hill and rather an expression of romantic garden art over the past 150 years.
There are so-called round hills in Germany (Schneckenhügel Aurich) and England (Snail Mound in Lyveden New Bield)
