Refatting agents , also called refatting agents or superfatting agents , are lipophilic basic substances in detergents , which are supposed to prevent a disruptive effect on the epidermal barrier function. They can be found in skin and hair care products, shampoos for dry scalps and cream soaps. The refatting agents in cleaning products compete with the surfactants used in the emulsionlipophilic dirt particles are added. So far, no lipid replenishing effects have been demonstrated with washing solutions, bath and shower oils. Only in shower creams, which are characterized by a reduced surfactant concentration to 15% and an oil content of 50%, have so far been observed moisturizing properties.
