The Liebstadt retention basin is a flood protection system of the state dam administration of Saxony (Gottleuba / Weißeritz dam maintenance department). The facility was completed in 1967 and dams the Seidewitz in its upper reaches.
The flood retention basin is a permanent storage basin and, in addition to providing flood protection for the city of Pirna, provides process water for industry and agriculture as well as commercial fishing.
The barrier structure is an earth dam with an inclined inner seal made of clay and a straight axis.
