Return leg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The first leg and second leg are the two games that arise from the division of a sporting encounter between two opposing players or teams . Due to the division, each of the opponents plays once at home and once away. The first of the games played is called the first leg, the second the second leg. If the winner of the clash is not necessarily played in two games, but in best-of mode , it is not usually referred to as a round trip.

If two teams meet in a pairing with a return game, from which a team is determined by the knockout system that moves on to the next round, the game results are summarized in a suitable way (usually by adding up the results) . If there is a tie between the teams after the first and second leg , the away goals rule is often used , especially in football and handball - to compensate for the home advantage .

Many tournaments and league competitions are split up accordingly; this is referred to as the round trip .
