The acantopsis octoactinotos is a kind from the family of the loach (Cobitidae).
The horse loach ( Acantopsis dialuzona ) is a species that is very similar to the trunk loach . It differs from the loach in its head shape and the water region in which it usually resides. However, they are very similar in their behaviors and claims.
Occurrence
The loach prefers clear, mostly fast-flowing waters in Indonesia . It rummages through the sandy or slightly gravelly soil of its original waters for food and almost completely buries itself there. It is able to adapt its color to the subsoil of this habitat . It occurs mainly in the bottom regions of fast-flowing rivers and streams and is found in fresh and brackish water .
Appearance and behavior
The elephant loach is long, narrow and up to 12 cm long. It has a light body, which is decorated with black and gray spots and stripes. The females are usually larger with a larger and thicker abdominal area.
It is usually a solitary and nocturnal fish that is only on the move during the day.
attitude
Loaches can be kept in a tank from 100 cm and require sand or fine gravel. Acantopsis octoactinotos is a loner but can also be kept in pairs in a tank from 120 cm. There should be enough shade in which the loach can hang out. Caves and floating plants are well suited for this. Instead of floating plants (e.g. small duckweed ), other large-leaved aquatic plants (e.g. sword plants ) can also be used. It behaves peacefully towards other fish and can easily be socialized.
Lining
Loaches eat mosquito larvae , nematodes , small insect larvae , frozen food and tablet feed. But they also rummage through the ground for edible, such. B. Algae .
