Rütger-von-Scheven-Strasse (Düren)
The Rütger von Scheven Street in Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia , is a historic main street.
Rütger-von-Scheven-Straße is the extension of August-Klotz-Straße . The street begins at the intersection of Stürtzstraße and August-Klotz-Straße and turns into Nippesstraße, which leads to Nideggener Straße . At this intersection is the listed Wehrmeisterkreuz , a wayside cross from 1664.
In the city map drawn by Wenceslaus Hollar in 1634, the street was referred to as a wooden path because the wood from the Wehrmeistereiwald near Gey was brought into the city on this path . In the 1882 address book, the Holzweg is also called Kreuzbendenweg . This naming is probably based on the Wehrmeisterkreuz. In 1896 the path was renamed Burgstrasse . Due to the incorporation of Rölsdorf in 1937 a name change to the current street name was necessary. The street was then named after Rütger von Scheven , who was the founder of the oldest paper mill in Düren, the Neumühl, in 1710.
