RJ Kirsch (* 1959 in Kirchen / Sieg ) is a German painter and conceptual artist .

Life

Kirsch studied painting at the Cologne factory schools with Franz Dank . The encounter with the American Fluxus artist Al Hansen in the early 1990s gave rise to an intensive examination of action and performance art . In 1991 he founded the art magazine “Der Standstand”, which he is still editor of today. Between 1994 and 1998 he regularly participated in projects of the ASA-European , in particular “Die Gabe”. As a freelance curator, he organized and designed performance events such as “100 Performances in the Urania Theater 1995” or “Graz Performances 2003”. RJKirsch is a member of the Cologne performance organization PAERSCHE.

Kirsch lives and works in Cologne.

Kirsch's painterly work develops as a permanent process of appropriating found visual worlds. A separate artistic cosmos of scientific and technical images, satellite images and phantom drawings emerges from the fragments of media image streams, in the case of his shadow sculptures from actual fragments, which he created in the nineties.

In “Rhythm of Statistics”, a series with accident scenes involving airplanes, ships or trains, on which Kirsch has been working since 2002, this staging captures the accelerated object. The stringing together of these mostly small-format works creates a panorama of the failure of high-tech means of transport. The translation of kinetic deformations into a painterly style makes the out of control movement energies visible.
