RKM & Ken-Y
The duo RKM & Ken-Y was a Puerto Rican music duo and representatives of romantic reggaeton . Most of their songs are based on a principle in which RKM complements Ken-Y's singing with rap .
They used to be known as Rakim y Ken-Y . For legal reasons, however, RKM had to change its stage name, otherwise there would be a risk of confusion with the US rapper Rakim .
Personal
RKM (José Nieves * February 6, 1981) and Ken-Y (Kenny Vásquez * September 7, 1984) were both born and raised in Gurabo, Puerto Rico . Ken-Y has a daughter named Kimberly Marie Vásquez with his longtime girlfriend Ana Isabelle.
RKM is also the father of two sons.
Career
Initially, RKM y Ken-Y performed at private parties and small concerts. However, they have also participated in numerous album recordings by other artists.
In 2005, the two won a competition called El Draft , an event hosted by music producer Chencho, where viewers vote for mostly unknown singers. The winners will then be given the opportunity to record a song that appears on the CD El Draft of the same name . RKM y Ken-Y achieved this with their single Tu No Estas . Thereby they made Raphy Pina, the music producer and president of Pina Records, attention. This signed the duo and enabled them to record their first album Masterpiece , which was released in February 2006. The first single from the album was the song Down , with which they had their big breakthrough as a singer. It was the # 1 Billboard Hot Latin song in 2006.
In the same year the duo went on tour worldwide. In line with this, the album Masterpiece - World Tour was released in December 2006 , which only contains live recordings of the concerts.
In April 2007 the album Masterpiece - Commemorative Edition was released , on which there are many remixes of their already released songs, but also some new tracks, as well as a DVD with video clips. In 2008, an album was released under the title Royalty / La Realeza , further albums followed in 2010, 2011 and 2012/2013.
RKM y Ken-Y have already worked with well-known artists such as Nicky Jam , Héctor 'El Father' , Daddy Yankee , Don Omar and Pitbull .
In 2013 the duo split up.
