RC Cola (also Royal Crown Cola ) is a cola brand that was developed by pharmacist Claude A. Hatcher in Columbus , Georgia , in 1905 . It belongs to the Dr Pepper Snapple Group .

history

Hatcher developed a range of beverages for his family's grocery store, which he sold under the name Royal Crown . He called his first brand of cola Chero-Cola . He also sold ginger ale and root beer under the Royal Crown brand .

Due to the good sales figures, Hatcher founded his company Chero-Cola Co. and developed a range of fruit drinks. Sixteen years after its inception, the company was renamed Nehi Corporation. Hatcher died in 1933 and his then deputy HR Mott took over the company. Mott wanted to improve the Chero-Cola and commissioned the chemist Rufas Kamm to give the drink a new taste. After six months of development, the new Cola was released under the name Royal Crown , the original Hatchers beverage range. In 1940 the company's products were already available in 47 (of the then 48) states of the USA. Due to the success of the Royal Crown Cola, the company was renamed the Royal Crown Cola Co. In 1954, Royal Crown produced the first beverage cans . In 2000, RC Cola was sold to Cadbury Schweppes plc . Today (2017) the company belongs to the Dr Pepper Snapple Group , which was spun off from Cadbury Schweppes in 2008.
