Rema 1000 is a food discounter operating in Norway and Denmark .
history
The first Rema supermarket was opened in Trondheim in 1979 by Odd Reitan . The German Aldi stores with the no frills concept served as inspiration . The name Rema stands for Reitan Mat ( Reitan food ), the number 1000 for the number of products sold.
The concept was exported to Denmark in the mid-1990s. As of August 1, 2018, the company had 622 stores in Norway and 314 stores in Denmark.
