The RENFE series 308 is a series of diesel-electric locomotives with an output of 520 kW and a top speed of 120 km / h. They were built between 1966 and 1969 by General Electric and Babcock & Wilcox for the Spanish railway company RENFE and were used both in shunting services and in front of trains .

These locomotives emerged from General Electric's standard U 10 B series, which can be found in numerous countries. They differ from this by the installation of a steam boiler for the train heating, which has changed their external appearance (type UM 10 B). Because of their low axle load , they served on branch lines and were spread across different regions of the rail network.

These locomotives replaced the 303 series in shunting and transporting short freight trains . They were originally run as the 10800 series . Some machines have since been scrapped. Others have been preserved, including 10817 and 10820, which today transport the historic Tren dels Llacs fleet .
