With the RICOH THETA , the Japanese manufacturer Ricoh has launched an omnidirectional camera that records 360-degree images with a resolution of up to 14 MPixels. The 360 ​​° spherical panorama is created with two lenses on the front and back of the camera and saved as a jpg image with a size of up to 5376 × 2688 pixels. The equidistant cylindrical projection is used . There are four different models in total. These images can be displayed as a spherical panorama with a special viewer.

  • Ricoh Theta was presented at IFA2013 on September 5th, 2013 and shipped from November 9th. It was awarded the if design award in 2014.
  • Ricoh Theta m15: With this model presented on November 14, 2014, videos with a running time of up to 5 minutes were possible for the first time.
  • Ricoh Theta S: On October 23, 2015, another model with a larger 1 / 2.3-inch sensor and a light intensity of 2 was presented; this is equipped with WiFi. The API is designed to be compatible with Google's Open Spherical Camera API . The images have a size of 5376 × 2688 pixels. 1920 × 1080 video at 30 fps can be up to 25 minutes long.   • Ricoh Theta SC: On October 12, 2016 Ricoh officially presented the Theta SC. It is to be classified between the M15 and the S.
  • Ricoh Theta R: At CES 2017, Ricoh announced another model in the Ricoh Theta series. This camera is able to deliver a continuous 360 degree video stream real time stitched in the equirectangular projection for 24 hours. The video stream is in 2K with 30 frames / s, an external power supply is required. The video stream can be accessed via the HDMI or USB output.
