RKO / Six Flags Entertainment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

RKO / Six Flags Entertainment Inc. was an American entertainment company that was the legal successor to the historic Hollywood studio RKO Pictures from 1987 to 1989 . The short-lived company was founded by the New York investment company Wesray Capital Corporation , which in September 1987 acquired the rights to the RKO General film holdings for US $ 31 million . The seller was GenCorp , the parent company of General Tire , a conglomerate that had tried unsuccessfully to use the RKO film stocks in its television branch profitably.

Wesray merged RKO with the amusement park chain Six Flags and founded RKO / Six Flags Entertainment Inc. CEO of the new company was Robert Kamerschen. But even in this connection there was no business to be made from the RKO films, and so RKO Pictures Inc. came back on the market in 1989. The rights to the trademarks, logos and scripts were acquired by Dina Merrill and Ted Hartley , who founded the production company RKO Pictures LLC that same year . The core of the company, the exploitation rights to the RKO film inventory (approx. 750 films), was acquired by Ted Turner's media company TBS for his new subsidiary Turner Entertainment .
