Organization de la Radio et la Télévision Arabe Syrienne
The Organization de la Radio et la Télévision Arabe Syrienne ( ORTAS ; Arabic الهيئة العامة للإذاعة والتلفزيون, DMG al-Haiʾa al-ʿĀmma li-l-Iḏāʿa wa-'t-Tilificyun ; English: General Organization of Syrian Arab Radio and TV or Syrian Arab Television and Radio Broadcasting Commission, SATRBC ) is the state broadcaster in Syria and is subordinate to the Ministry of Information. Earlier names were also Organizme de la Radio-Télévision Arabe Syrienne , Radio and Television (RTV Syria) and Syrian Radio & Television (SRT) .
The legal basis is a legislative decree from 2010, which, however, was largely not implemented. Sūmar Wassūf became the leader in December 2018. ORTAS is a member of the Arab Broadcasting Union (ASBU).
Radio
The radio service began in the Syrian Republic with their independence on 17 April 1946 on the shortwave . As early as 1942, there had been a counterpart to Radio Levant in Beirut in the French League of Nations mandate area with Radio Damas .

The international radio station Radio Damascus has existed since 1957 . According to the frequency announcements in the program, both FM (VHF) and AM (medium wave) are broadcast.

Syrian television started on July 23, 1960, two days later than in Egypt ( VAR ), which was then linked to Syria . In 1985 a second program was added (closed in 2012 due to the civil war ), in 1995 the Syria TV satellite service .

Syria Insider Weekly is broadcast in English, French and Spanish . Russian TV news is there every day.
