Radio Damascus is the foreign radio station of the Syrian state broadcaster Ortas, formerly RTV Syria .

Radio Damascus has also broadcast German-language programs since 1957 . At that time, however, the programs were only broadcast via medium wave and were thus apparently intended for listeners in the region, possibly German-speaking immigrants in Israel . In 1968 German-language programs were also broadcast on shortwave.

Radio Damascus is currently broadcasting a daily one-hour program in German as well as Arabic , English , French , Spanish , Russian and Turkish .

Some programs are also broadcast via one of the Hot Bird satellites (13 °). Radio Damascus is now broadcasting its programs on the Russian Express AM22 satellite (80.1 ° East) on 12,545 MHz for North Africa, Europe and the “Arab Homeland”.

After the shortwave masts were demolished, Radio Damascus continues to broadcast its programs via medium wave and the Internet. After a re-branding, the umbrella organization of the state radio is now called "Ortas - General Organization of Radio and TV Syria". Podcasts of the daily broadcasts in English, Russian, French, German, Spanish and Turkish can be heard at the bottom of the website.

These international broadcasts were also occasionally heard on the medium-wave transmitters. In addition to FM, these are also mentioned in the station's announcements. The frequencies are: 567 kHz from Adra / Damascus - 783 kHz from Besira / Tartus and 936 kHz from Tayr Ma`lah / Homs.

In the evenings, the powerful and powerfully modulated 783 with the Arabic-language program "Radio Dimashq" also reaches Central Europe. Depending on the propagation conditions, the broadcasts are sometimes very audible thanks to the almost completely free frequency in Germany.
