The pottery museum is located in Langerwehe in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .
Several potteries are still in operation in Langerwehe today . The history of the Wehter Döppesbäcker (Langerweher potters) is recorded in the pottery museum .
The parish bought the old rectory in the 1930s. It was intended to be used for the exhibition of the Josef Schwarz collection. The reconstruction was interrupted by the Second World War. In 1950 it continued. In addition to the exhibition, a workshop and a lecture hall have now been designed. From 1975 the museum, which had been run on a voluntary basis, was run by a full-time scientist .
The museum provides information on the dangerous underground mining of clay and the risky fire in the stoneware furnace. A total of eight rooms provide information about the diverse products and techniques used in clay processing.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are also many regular events, e.g. B. the pottery market. The community also carries out weddings in the special ambience of the museum .
