Düren Carnival Museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Düren Carnival Museum is located in the Düren district of Lendersdorf in the south wing II of the St. Augustine Hospital.

The regional association of Düren in the Bund Deutscher Karneval eV (RVD) is responsible for the cultural and historical carnival museum established in 1994 . With the museum, the RVD has set itself the task of presenting and maintaining representative documentation of the various carnival customs in the Rhineland and the Northern Eifel.

Until 2006, the museum in Niederzier was housed in the old renting facility. Since the exhibition and storage areas were too small, the museum moved to Lendersdorf in the former nurses' home of the St. Augustine Hospital , built in 1964 . The dormitory was demolished in 2011 due to the construction of a new hospital wing. In January 2016, the museum was reopened in the basement of the new south wing.

The museum is run on a voluntary basis and is financed only from donations and membership fees from the friends' association .

The catchment area for the collected works relates not only to the Düren district , but also to parts of the Euskirchen and Rhein-Erft districts . All affiliated carnival clubs have the opportunity to present themselves in a part of the museum for three months, for example to show their history.

All things that are broadly related to the term carnival are collected and shown in the museum , such as:

  • photos
  • Newspaper clippings, programs, posters
  • Film and video documents
  • Uniforms
  • Models of carnival floats
  • Flags
  • medal
  • Collections from private individuals
  • and much more.

The museum can be visited free of charge on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. from February 16, 2016.
