The St. Augustinus Hospital is one of four hospitals in Düren . It is in the Lendersdorf district . The hospital has 294 beds. The carrier is the "Caritas -trägergesellschaft West gGmbH (ctw)", which operates several facilities.
The hospital was a donation from the paper manufacturer Benno Schoeller to the Birgel office , to which Lendersdorf belonged at the time. This foundation was intended to care for old and sick workers from the company and the neighboring villages of Krauthausen , Lendersdorf, Birgel, Berzbuir and Kufferath . The hospital was put into operation on August 10, 1897. In 1928 a west wing was added. In 1961 the St. Elisabeth nursing home was built. In 1964 the bed and treatment wing followed. New operating theaters and an intensive care unit were added in 1988. In 1995–1997 a seven-story medical center was added. In 2005 the south wing was added with additional rooms and practices.
In the 1960s, the legal transfer was made by the civilian community on the association of the Cellitinnen whose sisters were until 1999 in the hospital operates. It was then that the hospital got its current name.
