The castle museum is located in Nideggen Castle in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
In 1898 the castle was donated to the Düren district . 1922 was the keep the "local history museum in Düren and the city of Nideggen" set. During the Second World War , the artillery tower served as an observation post. The residential tower received a direct hit in a bombing raid on December 6, 1944 and 2/3 slipped. After extensive renovation and reconstruction, the castle museum was inaugurated on September 27, 1979. In 2009 the sponsorship was transferred from the Rhineland Regional Council to the Düren district.
The museum
The museum is housed in a total of eight rooms within the tower on several floors. Here you can find castle models of the castles in the Eifel between the Moselle, Rhine and the state border. Armor , halberds , swords are also among the exhibits. Torture and interrogation methods, jurisdiction and imprisonment are explained. The economic system in the Middle Ages , such as B. fiefdom , tithe or tithe stone explained. In the basement you can see the dungeon in which the Archbishops of Cologne Konrad von Hochstaden and Engelbert II von Falkenburg were held captive.
On the fifth floor you can enjoy the view into the Cologne area.
Luzia Schlösser has also been the director of the German Glass Painting Museum in Linnich since December 2018 .
