Raúl Barbero

Raúl Barbero (born November 7, 1917 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † December 1, 2014 ) was a Uruguayan journalist, librettist and playwright.

Life

Barbero began his career in 1931 on the radio station CX14 El Espectador with the children's program La hora meridiana . In the following years he was present in various fields of activity. So he worked as a chansonnier, announcer, actor or emcee. As a librettist, he appeared both alone and with Julio Néstor Olivera and was particularly heard on CX16 Radio Carve . His cycle El teatro del sábado was created from 1952 to 1957 . This contains around 250 plays written by him. In 1954 he wrote Así lo quiso la vida . In the following year he founded the company Impetu Publicidad with Luis Canoni , from which he retired in 1986. He chaired the Rotary Club of Montevideo in 1975 and 1976. From 1980 to 1982 he also held the presidency of the basketball club Club Atlético Atenas . From 1987 he worked for the newspaper El País . There he wrote a weekly humorous column called Buenos Dias . He used the pseudonym Rebar . He was also responsible for the publications on the 70th and 75th birthday of the newspaper in 1988 and 1993. He also wrote numerous special supplements for the paper. Among them, for example, the Revista de la Copa América de Fútbol in 1995 and a series on the history of the football world championships. In addition, in 1996 he wrote De la galena al satélite, a chronicle covering 70 years of radio in Uruguay covering the years 1922 to 1992. His book Por siempre Carve , published in 1999, also deals with this topic. From 1990 to 1993 Barbero chaired the Instituto Cultural Uruguayo Argentino .
