Raúl Matas

Raúl Matas Esteban (born August 13, 1921 in Lanco , † December 31, 2004 in Santiago de Chile ), known as El Maestro , was a Chilean journalist, radio and television presenter.

Matas made his radio debut at the age of ten with Radio Sur . His professional career began with the Radio Cooperativa Vitalicia in Santiago, where he hosted the Discomanía program from 1940 to 1944 , which became known beyond Chile. He lived in the USA in the 1950s. From 1955 he was a news anchor for Radio New York Worldwide for Latin America, as well as a correspondent for magazines in Chile and Spain.

In 1958 he went to Madrid, where he continued his successful career and was twice awarded the Premio Ondas radio award. He also took part in Argentine programs and was hired in 1969 for the first broadcast of the Chilean Televisión Nacional . Here, after his return to Chile in 1971, he presented programs such as 60 Minutos and Vamos a Ver . From 1987 he took over the direction of the programs Almorzando en el Trece and Una vez más at Canal 13 of the Universidad Católica , at the same time he became the voice of Radio Oasis . In 2002 he was still in charge of the Inolvidables program at Canal 13, which presented the biographies of Chilean personalities such as Silvia Piñeiro , Esther Hunneus and José María Navasal .
