Make Believe is the fifth studio album by the American alternative rock band Weezer .

Background information

The music of many of the songs on Make Believe can be traced back to demos by the band. Some of them were created in 2002. The production of the album was taken over by Rick Rubin . Rivers Cuomo, who wrote all the songs on the album, was inspired for the lyrics of the album by numerous personal experiences, such as the Vipassana meditation ( Pardon Me ). Other suggestions included unrestrained drug use and parties ( We Are All on Drugs ) or fasting ( Hold Me ).

The most successful song on the album is the single Beverly Hills , which was # 1 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and # 9 on the UK charts. Another No. 1 hit in the modern rock tracks was the single Perfect Situation . The song My Best Friend was later used in the film Yogi Bear .

The reviews of Make Believe have been mixed. Allmusic awarded three out of five possible stars, Pitchfork only awarded 0.4 out of 10 stars and criticized the album's nostalgia.
