Raad van Verzet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raad van Verzet (RVV) ( German  about "Resistance Council" ; completely Raad van Verzet in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden ; German  "Resistance Council in the Kingdom of the Netherlands" ) was the name for a Dutch resistance organization during the time of the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II .

history

The RVV was founded on April 20, 1943, shortly before the outbreak of the April-May strikes , as an underground organization in Amersfoort on the initiative of Jan Thijssen . He was the head of the radio station of the Ordedienst (OD) ( German  "Ordnungsdienst" ), another resistance organization . The seat of the council was in Amsterdam. However, council meetings took place mostly in Laren (North Holland) until the end of 1943 , then in Maarsbergen and Maarn (both near Utrechtse Heuvelrug). The main purpose was to coordinate resistance activities against the German occupiers.

On September 5, 1944, the RVV was Royal Decree with the two other main armed opposition groups in the occupied Netherlands to Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten ( German  about "Dutch domestic - Armed Forces " ) officially merged, namely the OD and the Landelijke Knokploegen (LKP) ( German  "National Battle Groups" ). Up until then, the three organizations had fought against the German occupiers largely independently of one another.
