Rabensteiner Tower
The Rabensteiner Tower (Czech Rabštejnská věž ) in Budweis (Czech České Budějovice ), the largest city in South Bohemia and the administrative seat of the South Bohemian Region in the Czech Republic , was built in the 14th / 15th centuries. history
The Rabensteiner Tower is named after a subprior of the nearby Dominican monastery . The tower was part of the medieval Budweiser city fortifications, the western part of which has largely been preserved up to the Iron Maiden tower in the south. The tower also served as a prison for the city guards for minor offenses.
Today there is a museum in the tower.
building
The plastered tower on the northern edge of the old town is built on a rectangular floor plan. The high hipped roof is interrupted by three bay windows. The remains of a battlement on corbels are preserved on the first floor. In the lower part you can find the remains of the former prison.
