Teaching and Research

Schweyer deals with basic questions of practical theology, church theory and church building, worship , sermon and prayer . He understands worship first and foremost as an encounter with God, as a resonance space for God's speech and work. This is done in alignment with God, through reading the powerful Word of God and through prayer. It is more important to talk to God than to talk about him, there is still potential in strengthening this vertical dimension, especially in free church assemblies, which are in danger of becoming banal due to too loose everyday language and a lack of liturgy. On the contrary, regional churches tended to worship sober, abstract and distant, which would hardly affect and convince the visitors with their everyday questions. The task of the church is to turn to the Bible again and again and to be measured against it, especially in post-Christian Europe. He has written both scientific and popular writings on this.

Honors

Schweyer's dissertation 2007 with the title Contextual Church Theory. A critical and constructive examination of the church's understanding of more recent practical theological drafts was awarded the Johann Tobias Beck Prize in 2008 .
