Armin Mauerhofer

Armin Mauerhofer (born November 15, 1946 in Neuenegg ) is a Swiss teacher, evangelical theologian and pastor in the Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations in Switzerland . From 1986 to 2016 he was Professor of Practical Theology at the State Independent Theological University (STH) in Riehen near Basel .

Life

Armin Mauerhofer grew up with six other siblings in a pietistic family in the Bernese village of Neuenegg, one of his older brothers is the New Testament scholar Erich Mauerhofer . From 1963 to 1967 he trained at the state teacher training college in Hofwil in Bern, after which he worked as a primary school teacher in the German-Friborg village of Rechthalten . 1970 to 1974 studied at the Free Evangelical Theological Academy Basel (FETA), which is now called the State-independent Theological University Basel (STH). From 1981 to 1986 he completed his doctoral studies at the University of Bern and received his doctorate in theology in 1986 with the dissertation A Awakening Movement in the 19th Century. Karl von Rodt and the emergence of the Free Evangelical Congregations in Switzerland. In the same year he became a lecturer at the STH Basel for practical theology. His research interests are in pedagogy , catechetics , homiletics and oicodomics . In 2016 he retired.

In addition to his work as a lecturer at the STH Basel, Mauerhofer was pastor of the Free Evangelical Community of Langenthal from 1974 to 1993 and pastor of the Free Evangelical Community of Aarau from 2001 to 2013 . Since 2014 he has been pastor of the Free Evangelical Congregation Trittligasse (Zurich). In addition, from 1977 to 2003 he was a formative member of the board of the Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations in Switzerland.
