Erich Mauerhofer

Erich Mauerhofer (* 1942 in Neuenegg , Canton Bern ) is a Swiss evangelical New Testament theologian , dogmatist , pastor and Bible teacher . He was professor for New Testament theology and dogmatics at the state-independent theological college (STH) in Riehen near Basel .

Life

Erich Mauerhofer grew up with six other siblings in a pietistic family in Neuenegg in Bern. Two of his brothers are Armin Mauerhofer , practical theologian, and Walter Mauerhofer, missionary in Austria. He received the teaching diploma of the Canton of Bern in 1961 and then worked as a secondary school teacher. In 1964 he entered a mission Bible school, was then a preacher in a free church and had a study visit to London in 1966/67. From 1971 to 1975 he studied theology at FETA in Basel (now: STH). This was followed by a doctoral degree at the Theological University of Kampen in Kampen (Netherlands) . There he received his Doctorandus degree in 1977 and received his doctorate in 1980 with Herman Ridderbos with the dissertation The Struggle Between Flesh and Spirit with Paul .

From 1980 on, Mauerhofer worked as a lecturer for the New Testament at the state-independent Theological College - formerly Free Evangelical Theological Academy (FETA) - in Riehen near Basel , and from 1983 also in dogmatics. From 1984 to the end of 1998 he was professor of dogmatics and New Testament theology there.

Afterwards he was professor of the New Testament (with environmental and contemporary history and the history of transmission of the Bible) and for systematic theology (including research into the 4000-year history of Israel and exegesis of prophecy) at the Protestant Theological Faculty in Leuven (Belgium) (1999 -2005).

He volunteered as a tent evangelist for the Evangelical Brothers Association until in 1967 he co-founded the Association of Free Missionary Congregations (VFMG), which was split off from it ; afterwards he worked as a board member in the preaching and pastoral ministry. In 1991, Mauerhofer was pastor of the Free Mission Church in Zofingen in the canton of Aargau.

Today, Mauerhofer is a member of the Bible Meeting of the Evangelical Free Church of Rothrist , where he works as a pastor and gives lectures at Bible Weeks. He was a co-author of the now no longer published FETA magazine, Fundamentum . In the 1970s he edited the trilogy of the missionary Elisabeth Seiler's experiences of a China missionary, published by the Liebenzeller Mission publishing house .

Private

Mauerhofer has been married to Helena Mauerhofer-Fiechter since 1968. The couple have two daughters and live in Strengelbach in the Zofingen district in the canton of Aargau.
