The Evangelische Theologische Faculteit (ETF, German Evangelical Theological Faculty of Leuven ) is a state-recognized academic university based in Leuven ( Leuven in the Netherlands ) in the Belgian region of Flanders . All courses are accredited and have the same status as those at Belgian universities.

history

In 1919 the Bijbelinstituut België was founded in Brussels , a training center for evangelists, which was also recognized as a training center for religious teachers on May 28, 1971 and moved to Heverlee, a sub-community of the university town of Leuven , in 1975 . In 1981 the Evangelical Theological Faculty (ETF) was founded there. On January 21, 1983, the ETF was officially recognized by a Royal Decree in accordance with the university education law in force in Belgium for the award of Licentiate and Doctoral degrees.

The Higher Education Act of April 4, 2003, which regulates the reforms within the framework of the Bologna Process for the Flemish Community of Belgium, confirms the recognition of the ETF as a scientific university and the introduction of the two-tier study system (Bachelor / Master) from the academic year 2004/05 arranged. Since then, the ETF's academic degrees have included bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in theology and religious studies.

As part of the accreditation requirement for all Flemish higher education courses introduced by the Higher Education Act of April 4, 2003, the Flemish Inter-University Council organized a visit to the theological faculties of Flanders in autumn 2005. Due to the positive results, the two-stage courses of the ETF were accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO) from September 2007.

Rector of the ETF is Patrick Nullens, whose doctorate was accompanied by the former professor at the ETF and the STH Basel , the conservative German theologian Georg Huntemann .
