The Transnational Universiteit Limburg (tUL) is an independent transnational university founded as a partnership between the University of Maastricht (Netherlands) and the University of Hasselt (Belgium). The tUL has locations in Hasselt / Diepenbeek (Belgium) and Maastricht (Netherlands).

The university was preceded by the first talks in 1988 and a joint study carried out in 1992 on a specialization at a university for information and knowledge technology, which was then offered at the universities of Hasselt and Maastricht. In 2001, the founding agreement was signed and a second specialization in Biomedical Sciences and Molecular Biosciences was decided at the same time. In 2008, a third specialization was established in law in cooperation with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven .
