The Distance University of the Netherlands ( Open Universiteit , German  Open University ) is a Dutch distance university founded in 1984 with headquarters in Heerlen , Netherlands .

Course offer

In addition to regular studies in cultural studies, computer and information science, management sciences, natural sciences, educational sciences, psychology and law, which can be completed with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) , there are academic continuing education programs and the opportunity to participate in the Open University Graduate School (OUGS) to do a PhD .

Admission requirements

The Open University of the Netherlands (Open Universiteit) is committed to open university teaching. A minimum age of 18 years, command of the Dutch and English languages ​​as well as general knowledge of HAVO and WVO are required to start studying. A university entrance qualification is not required.

The university degrees are accredited according to the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO) and the Dutch Qualification Framework (NLQF) as part of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) . Thanks to the Bologna Process , Dutch degrees are also recognized in 45 European countries, including Germany.

costs

The fees for studying depend on the point of study, educational background and nationality. For Dutch nationals, the statutory tuition fee for Bachelor's and Master’s courses is 65.11 euros per study point and for international students between 107.49 euros and 143.49 euros per study point, depending on the degree.

Federal education funding

Students from Germany cannot receive BAföG for studying because German law assumes that studying at an Open University is not equivalent to studying at a German university. The ruling originally concerned The Open University (OU) in Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom and has so far also applied to comparable Open Universities.
