Rachael Leahcar (born February 22, 1994 ) is a blind Australian pop singer of Italian descent.

biography

Leahcar suffers from hereditary retinal degeneration and is 90% blind. At the age of six she learned to play the piano and when she was eight she performed for the first time at her school's Christmas event. After that she also took singing lessons and learned the flute as a second instrument. When she was twelve, she took part in Search for a Star at Café Fellini in her hometown of Adelaide and made it into the top three, which gave her the first opportunity to go to a recording studio. Three years later she won Dino Prizzi's International Festival of Italian Song , an Australian competition for Italian music. The prize was a trip to Rome and an appearance on the television show Il Caffè at Rai Uno. In the same year she also recorded her first CD with cover songs. A second CD with the title Rachael Leahcar followed later . In order to protect herself from direct private contacts, she adopted the pseudonym "Leahcar", which is simply her first name upside down.

Leahcar then applied unsuccessfully to the major Australian television casting shows Australia’s Got Talent and The X Factor and was finally accepted into The Voice in 2012. After her first appearance at the Blind Auditions with La vie en rose by Édith Piaf , she was already considered a favorite, as she then achieved the best placement of all participants with number 18 in the Australian charts. However, she subsequently fell behind the later winner Karise Eden and finally reached 3rd place.
