The Bellthorpe National Park (English Bellthorpe National Park ) is a 75.5 square kilometer national park in Queensland , Australia . It is named after the small town of Bellthorpe at the northeast end of the park.

location

It is located in the South East Queensland region about 70 kilometers north of Brisbane and 175 kilometers south of Hervey Bay . The closest town is Caboolture . From here you can reach the park via the D'Aguilar Highway . About 3 miles after Woodford , Stony Creek Road branches north into the park, which later ends at a picnic area. You can explore the park along unpaved forest roads either on foot, on horseback, by mountain bike or in a four-wheel drive vehicle. There are no camping facilities.

The Conondale , Glass House Mountains , D'Aguilar and Maleny National Parks are in the vicinity .

Terrain forms

Bellthorpe National Park is west of the Glass House Mountains , at the southern end of the Conondale Range . The terrain is rugged, up to 650 meters high and overgrown with open eucalyptus forests and rainforest . The numerous watercourses are particularly worth seeing, for example the Stony Creek , where many endangered animals and plants can be observed.

Flora and fauna

Among the amphibians , for example, the Pearson's Green Tree Frog ( Litoria pearsoniana ), the Tusked Frog ( Adelotus brevis ) and the Giant Barred Frog ( Mixophyes iteratus ) are classified as endangered or threatened. On the other hand, the Great Barred Frog ( Mixophyes fasciolatus ) and the Stony Creek Frog ( Litoria wilcoxii ) are common in the park .

In the wet areas of the park, 23 different orchid species were counted, including the Tree Spider Orchid ( Dendrobium tetragonum ), Ravine Orchid ( Sarcochilus fitzgeraldii ) and the Red Rope Orchid ( Bulbophyllum schillerianum ).

The park is also home to over 100 different species of birds, 33 species of mammals, including the endangered rabbit kangaroos , and 17 species of reptiles.
