The Pioneer Peaks National Park (English Pioneer Peaks National Park ) is a 19 km² national park in Queensland , Australia .
location
It is on the Bruce Highway , 20 miles northwest of Mackay and 54 miles south of Airlie Beach . There are no roads, hiking trails or other visitor facilities in the national park.
The Newry Islands , Cape Hillsborough , Mount Martin , Reliance Creek and Mount Ossa national parks are in the vicinity .
Terrain forms
The highest peak in the park is Mount Blackwood ( 590 m) , lower are Mount Jukes (547 m), Mount Adder (380 m) and Mount Mandurana (308 m). All are of volcanic origin and formed about 32 million years ago. The steep peaks have formed over time due to erosion .
Flora and fauna
In Pioneer Peaks National Park, there are some endemic animals such as the Phyllurus isis from the family of geckos , the only in the with rainforest occurs covered slopes of Mount Blackwood and Mount Jukes, or Mixophyes fasciolatus from the family of Australian Southern Frogs , a Frog that breeds in rivers and is otherwise only found in the Eungella National Park . The yellow-footed pouch mouse , a small, carnivorous marsupial that has not been seen in central Queensland since 1995, is also native to Pioneer Peaks National Park.
