Brigalow-Belah - Acacia forest ( Acacia harpophylla ) is predominantly found in the park . Ornamental and scaled cypresses , poplar boxes ( Eucalyptus populnea ), wilga ( Geijera parviflora ), false sandalwood ( Eremophila mitchelli ) and Australian tea trees can be found in the park area.

There is a lot of wildlife in the bushy forests; among other things, 92 bird species were counted. Here is the western edge of the range of the wong pigeon .

Facilities and access

Camping in the park is not permitted and there are no landscaped paths or roads.

Southwood National Park is on the Moonie Highway ( Tarewinnabar exit ), which forms the southern boundary of the park. The Southwood settlement is on the north side of the park and can only be reached via an unpaved road. In wet weather, this road becomes muddy and possibly impassable.
