The Springbrook National Park is a national park in Gold Coast -Hinterland on the east side of the Great Dividing Range in the Australian state of Queensland , 78 kilometers south of Brisbane .
It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests of Australia . In December 1994, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially expanded the World Heritage Area "Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves Australia" (CERRA) over the Scenic Rim (including Main Range , Mount Barney , Lamington and Springbrook National Parks and Goomburra Forest Reserve) and the rainforests of northern New South Wales.
The national park can be divided into four areas: the Springbrook Plateau, the Natural Bridge , Numinbah and Mount Cougal . The Springbrook National Park is well developed for tourism. There are numerous hiking trails and many lookout points in the Springbrook Plateau.
Mount Cougal area
The park's Mount Cougal area is approximately 20 kilometers inland from Currumbin . It started in 1938 with an area of 142 hectares that has been protected and over time this has increased to 811 hectares. In 1990 the area was merged with Springbrook National Park.
The area is named after Mount Cougal , which is in the park, just on the Queensland side of the New South Wales border . The mountain has two peaks, called the east and west peaks, and reaches 694 meters above sea level.
Natural Bridge area
The Natural Bridge is a naturally formed rock arch over Cave Creek, a tributary of the Nerang River . It was formed by a waterfall that broke through a cave and then left a rock arch.
Springbrook Plateau area
Various waterfalls can be observed along short hiking trails in the Springbrook Plateau area. The circular route, which starts at either the Tallanbana or Goomoolahra picnic area, leads to the waterfalls "Twin Falls", "Rainbow Falls", "Goomoolahra Falls", "Kadjagooma Falls", "Ngarri-dhum Falls", "Gooroolba Falls" , "Poonyahra Falls", "Poondahra Falls" and "Blackfellow Falls". The Gwongorella picnic area is the access point for the hike to the Purlingbrook Falls and Tanninaba Falls.
